User roles

Introduction...

User roles determine what users can see and do in Mingle.

You must register users in Mingle before you can assign any user roles. Before registered users can view projects, you must set them up as project team members (and/or project administrators).

There are four user roles in Mingle:
  • Mingle administrator
  • Project administrator
  • Project team member
  • Non-project member

At the Mingle/global level, users can either have a Mingle user role or Mingle administrator role. Mingle administrators have full, unrestricted access to Mingle and all Mingle projects. Mingle users must be granted access to specific projects (either as a project administrator or project team member) before they can access any Mingle data. Those without any project permissions are non-project members and they can't access any project data.

Mingle administrator

Mingle administrators have full control over an installed version of Mingle. By default, the person who installs Mingle is the Mingle administrator. This person may add other Mingle administrators as required.

Mingle administrators can:
  • access all projects (regardless of whether they are project members)
  • create, edit or delete projects
  • import/export projects
  • edit user details
  • create/edit/delete cards and wiki pages
  • add, edit or delete any project properties
  • add/remove team members from project
  • manage tags
  • create/edit/delete card transitions
  • manage saved views

There is nothing a Mingle administrator cannot do.

Project administrator

Project administrators must be set up by a Mingle administrator. Mingle administrators are usually also project administrators for one or more projects.

Project administrators can:
  • access only those projects to which they have permission
  • import/export their projects
  • add/remove team members from his/her project(s)
  • manage tags
  • create/edit/delete cards and wiki pages
  • set card transitions
  • manage saved views
  • add, edit or delete any project properties
Project administrators cannot:
  • add new users to Mingle
  • access projects where they aren't members
  • create or delete projects

Project team member

Project members must be set up by Mingle administrators or project administrators. Most Mingle users are assigned project member roles.

Project team members can:
  • access only those projects to which they have permission
  • create/edit/delete cards and wiki pages
  • export projects
  • create and access saved views
  • edit their own profile
Project team members cannot:
  • access projects where they aren't members
  • add, edit or delete project properties
  • create/edit/delete card transitions
  • add or edit team members

Non-project member

A non-project member is anybody who is set up as a Mingle user, but who has not been given access to a project. They can sign in to Mingle, but cannot access any projects.
