Hello,

I am observing puzzling behaviour on my Mingle installation
with the history filter and the ‘Watch this – via email’ feature.

I want to be notified about any update to any card in the project.
So I simply checked ‘cards’ and then left everything as ‘any’ and
hit ‘watch this – via email’.

I immediately get a ‘You have subscribed to system history’ message
- so the email SMTP configuration is set up correctly

But when I update cards I get no emails.
I have tried narrowing the criteria – for example I set filters to watch
cards which have changed across planning status – but still no emails
(besides the confirmation)

I also tried to watch a specific card via email. Got the confirmation but
when I update the card – no email.

Do you have any ideas as to what may be going wrong?
I am not seeing any errors in the mingle log when I take actions which should
cause an email to be sent.

Hi Patrick

As it seems that you have successfully set up the server, as you have received the mail confirmation, I would expect that there is likely some information in the mingle.log file that will denote what is happening on the server and preventing mails from being sent. However, as you said there are no errors in the mingle.log file it could also be beneficial to check the mail server logs to see if any errors are caught there.

For further help debugging this issue please send your mingle.log and mail server logs to our support team via this address: http://studios.thoughtworks.com/mingle-project-intelligence/support-requests.

Thanks Suzie

A quick update to inform others who may experience a similar error.

We determined that somehow one of the history subscriptions got into a bad state where it was referencing a property that no longer existed. Once there was a bad history subscription in the database Mingle recognised that and threw an error. This meant that none of the other history subscriptions are processed. We are unsure how the data became invalid but it may have been because a property was deleted. We have logged a bug in Mingle to skip over history subscriptions with bad properties which should stop this case from occurring again.
