I’d like to be able to set the owner and reporter properties to users that are not registered in Mingle because they’re not really part of the daily project work and as Mingle is priced per user we think it’s not worth buying another license for a user that will probably never even see the Mingle application but we’d like to keep track of that person.

So, i realize that you can’t change property types. My next try was to remove the owner property and then i would create the same property but with the managed text list type. Problem is that when i try to remove the owner property Mingle says that it’s going to remove a bunch of tabs too. This means that i would have to re-create the tabs.

Any easier way to do this ?

Hugo,

I don’t think you’ll be able to get around the tab deleting or changing part, but you should be able to at least migrate your team list to a managed text list. Here’s how I would do it.

  1. Make a complete backup of your project just in case
  2. Rename your “owner” property to something like “old_owner”
  3. Create a new property called “owner” that is the managed text list that you want to use for the team
  4. Export all of your cards to excel that have the “old_owner” on them
  5. In excel, remove the new “owner” property column that won’t have anything in it and rename the “old_owner” column to “owner” from the third step, fixing the data if you need to
  6. Import the stories back into Mingle, making sure that you’re importing into your new “owner” property that is a text list (you really only need the card number and new “owner” column at this step)
  7. Check that the data came in correctly
  8. Hide the “old_owner” property
  9. Change the tabs/favorites at your leisure
  10. Optionally, remove the “old_owner” property completely

Repeat for reporter.

Good luck!
